AQUILEX 2021- Sci-Fi Writing Competition

Introduction

As SEDS PERA, we always try to bring up something innovative and uncommon in order to keep our chapter active and to improve the knowledge of the members on space science. Of all of the parts of the world, the field of technology is most impacted by science fiction. Multiple fields including communication, transportation, and space travel are improved because of the fantastic ideas presented in the science fiction genre. Therefore, we decided to organize a competition “Aquilex 2021” in the field of fiction writing as an effort to admire and get back the attentiveness for this subject in Sri Lanka.

Project Description

This project “Aquilex 2021” is a sci-fi writing competition which is open for all the young enthusiasts in scientific fictions all over the country to show and improve their creativity combined with the knowledge of science. The competition will be held for a period of 2 months. During the competition period we will arrange a webinar series for novice writers covering basics of fiction writing and tips and tricks for mastering the talent as a career path.

Project Goals and Objectives

To encourage members in all the SEDS chapters to develop their creativity.
To provide a platform to exchange ideas for the sci-fi writers in our country.
To identify and develop young emerging talents within the country.
To develop the interest on sci-fi among Sri Lankan.
To publish a magazine.

Organizers

To give the opportunity to any member who is interested in organizing, we decided to get the helping hand of the members of SEDS PERA chapter. As a result of that 24 members will be joining in organizing beside the committee.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

All decisions made by the judges regarding the winners are final. By submitting, you are agreeing to all contest rules.
The contest is open to anyone who is interested.
Each participant needs to be registered and one contestant can submit only one story.
Contestants can script their scientific fictions in both Sinhala and English language.
Contestants should draft their story with minimum of 1000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words.
Cover page is not needed, But pictures and drawings can be added if you want.
Contestant should choose an appropriate title for their science fiction and should maintain consistent font type and font size should be 12.
Contestants should submit their stories in a PDF format.
Please do not include your name in the body of the document. Judging will be done without knowing the identity of the author.
Stories should be submitted before 14th of March at 11.59 p.m. (Submission link will be provided)

BENEFITS FOR THE PARTICIPANTS

All the participants will be provided an e-certificate.
Winners will be awarded by cash prizes and printed certificates.
Selected top 10 fictions will be published on SEDS PERA website.
All the fictions will be published as a magazine
